Avocado Reintroduction Update

Avocado Reintroduction Update

Last week I boldly ventured into reintroducing avocados. You may have seen my post on it. ⁣

What happened? Well firstly thanks for the support throughout - I had so many lovely messages. ⁣

There’s a lot of avocado love in the world, which is a shame for us because they are generally regarded as being high in histamine. ⁣

The science backs this up. In this study Biogenic Amines in Plant-Origin Foods: Are they Frequently Underestimated in Low-Histamine Diets? https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6306728/ the existing data was reviewed with these results;⁣

So what happened when I reintroduced them? My wife Faith made this delicious watercress soup with avocado and radishes on top. It was gooood.⁣

My histamine symptoms range from pesky blocked up nose (not particularly nice but manageable), to full on stomach melt-down.⁣

Thankfully I didn’t have any major symptoms, but after I ate this soup I felt quite blocked that night. ⁣

My avocado reintroduction experiment sadly ended quite quickly after that.⁣

But that won’t stop me. I’ll try again. ⁣

And whilst the avocado reintroduction might not have worked out, I’ve recently successfully reintroduced so many other foods that I’m feeling pretty good about life. ⁣

Frozen salmon for example works great for me now, and I eat lots of it. ⁣

⁣I wouldn’t have gone near that in the past. I can also happily tolerate small amounts of coconut yogurt now.⁣
