Can I Eat Avocados on a Low Histamine Diet?
I have found the more that I eat a low-histamine diet and cut out those avocados, plus the chocolates, the leftovers and even the tomatoes as well, the better I feel. Even if they are basically my favourite foods!
I'm not saying don't eat 'em, but you might have to cut down on them for a while. Avocado is one food that trigger release of histamine in mast cells.
It seems like I’m not the only one. When I asked on my Instagram, many people in my low histamine community are careful with avocados. Most can’t eat them at all.
One follower on Instagram reported:
“Avocados were the reason I discovered my histamine intolerance… my tongue swells and it feels like it has cuts all over it.”
So I carried on digging online and found an interesting study by PubMed which confirmed high levels of histamine in avocados.
This is a shame because avocados are absolutely delicious, but if you’re histamine intolerant, they may trigger your symptoms.
