Avocado Reintroduction Update
Last week I boldly ventured into reintroducing avocados. You may have seen my post on it.
What happened? Well firstly thanks for the support throughout - I had so many lovely messages.
There’s a lot of avocado love in the world, which is a shame for us because they are generally regarded as being high in histamine.
The science backs this up. In this study Biogenic Amines in Plant-Origin Foods: Are they Frequently Underestimated in Low-Histamine Diets? https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6306728/ the existing data was reviewed with these results;
So what happened when I reintroduced them? My wife Faith made this delicious watercress soup with avocado and radishes on top. It was gooood.
My histamine symptoms range from pesky blocked up nose (not particularly nice but manageable), to full on stomach melt-down.
Thankfully I didn’t have any major symptoms, but after I ate this soup I felt quite blocked that night.
My avocado reintroduction experiment sadly ended quite quickly after that.
But that won’t stop me. I’ll try again.
And whilst the avocado reintroduction might not have worked out, I’ve recently successfully reintroduced so many other foods that I’m feeling pretty good about life.
Frozen salmon for example works great for me now, and I eat lots of it.
I wouldn’t have gone near that in the past. I can also happily tolerate small amounts of coconut yogurt now.
