Are Peas High in Histamine?
Many people wonder if peas are high in histamine or is it low histamine.
On three of the major sites, this is how green peas are listed:
SIGHI List: Green peas, green split peas, snow peas, and yellow split peas are listed as 1 – tolerated. Pulses (dry peas, cow peas, pigeon peas) are listed as 2 – poorly tolerated.
Histamine Intolerance Site: 🤔 (yellow – medium histamine)
Mast Cell 360: green peas not specifically listed
Comments: Mast Cell 360 lists green split peas and yellow split peas as low histamine, just “peas” as high histamine.
On our trusted Histamine Intolerance Food List, we’ve listed peas as yellow - foods that are medium histamine, or where there is debate about histamine levels = 🤔
On the SIGHI scale - green peas are listed as a ‘1’ - moderately compatible, minor symptoms, occasional consumption of small quantities is often tolerated.
These are not to be mistaken with chickpeas, which do seem to be much higher in histamine and do not agree with me personally. Some people do seem to react to green peas but personally, for what it’s worth, I’m fine with them.
